Following an exciting Week 4, it’s time to improve our rosters for Week 5 by using the waiver wire. Let’s take a look at the top waiver wire pickups to target for your fantasy football team.

All roster percentages are from FleaFlicker.

Week 5 Waiver Wire Pickups and Targets

Which players can help your roster in advance of Week 5?

Quarterbacks

Here are the quarterbacks to target on the Week 5 fantasy football waiver wire.

Sam Darnold, Carolina Panthers (56% rostered)

I blasted Sam Darnold as not being good enough to start in the NFL. I scoffed at the notion that his poor performance was due to Adam Gase’s ineptitude and the Jets’ lack of weapons. Darnold has proven me wrong.

Prior to Sunday Night Football, Darnold sat as the overall QB1 for Week 4. He’s just 37% rostered in Yahoo leagues. He’s worth anywhere from 3-10% of your free agent budget (FAB), depending on need. Darnold has transcended streamer status and become an every-week starting option.

Taylor Heinicke, Washington Football Team (34% rostered)

Here are Taylor Heinicke’s point totals over the past 3 weeks: 21, 23, 27. He’s thrown multiple touchdown passes in three straight games. His next two games are at home against the Saints and Chiefs. The Saints couldn’t stop Daniel Jones this week, and the Chiefs can’t stop anyone. Heinicke is just 10% rostered in Yahoo leagues and is worth a 3-5% FAB bid.

Running Backs

Week 5 is going to be another expensive week on the waiver wire at running back.

Damien Williams, Chicago Bears (31% rostered)

David Montgomery left Chicago’s game in the second half with a knee injury. After Montgomery departed, it was all Damien Williams with a sprinkle of Khalil Herbert. Ian Rapoport of NFL.com reported that Montgomery hyperextended his knee and is believed to have avoided major injury. However, Williams is an every-week RB2 as long as Montgomery is sidelined.

Be sure to check back on Tuesday before locking in your waiver claims for an update on Montgomery, as his status directly impacts the amount you should bid on Williams (7% rostered in Yahoo leagues). If Montgomery is expected to miss only a few weeks, Williams is worth a 15-25% FAB bid. If Montgomery is out for an extended period of time, Williams is worth all of it.

Kenneth Gainwell, Philadelphia Eagles (50% rostered)

Miles Sanders is still the clear lead back, but the Eagles used Kenneth Gainwell in the hurry-up. The rookie RB played about 40% of the snaps and saw 8 targets. With bye weeks coming up, Gainwell could have fill-in RB3 value. He’s just 29% rostered in Yahoo leagues and is worth a 3-10% FAB bid.

Alex Collins, Seattle Seahawks (8% rostered)

I’m not quite sure what’s going on with Chris Carson, but Alex Collins looked like the superior back on Sunday — and the Seahawks knew it. Collins touched the ball 12 times, totaled 78 yards, and scored. He’s just 1% rostered in Yahoo leagues. He’s worth a 5-15% FAB bid.

Jeremy McNichols, Tennessee Titans (13% rostered)

Jeremy McNichols was targeted 12 times as the Titans were forced to throw against the winless Jets. It’s probably an aberration, but McNichols is clearly Tennessee’s guy when they’re in negative game script. He’s just 1% rostered in Yahoo leagues and is worth a couple of FAB bucks.

Week 5 Waiver Wire Targets | Wide Receivers

Here are the wide receivers to target on the Week 4 fantasy football waiver wire.

Van Jefferson, Los Angeles Rams (31% rostered)

Let’s just call it as we see it. The Rams’ WR2 is Van Jefferson, not Robert Woods. Jefferson caught all 6 of his targets for 90 yards and a touchdown on Sunday. He’s just 5% rostered in Yahoo leagues and is worth a 3-7% FAB bid.

Darnell Mooney, Chicago Bears (62% rostered)

Darnell Mooney doesn’t quite meet our typical 60% roster threshold, but he’s only rostered in 38% of Yahoo leagues. Mooney caught 5-of-7 targets for 125 yards on Sunday. He was a popular preseason breakout candidate, so maybe it’s finally happening. He’s worth a 3-7% FAB bid.

A.J. Green, Arizona Cardinals (45% rostered)

As someone who declared A.J. Green dust, it pains me to include him here — but I must do my duty. Green has exactly 6 targets in every game this season, and he’s doing enough to warrant weekly WR4 status. He’s rostered in just 24% of Yahoo leagues. You can throw 3-7% of your FAB on him.

Kadarius Toney, New York Giants (28% rostered)

We don’t know for sure how long Sterling Shepard and Darius Slayton will be out, but Kadarius Toney was targeted 8 times in their absence. That’s enough to be worth a speculative add. He’s rostered in 3% of Yahoo leagues and is worth a 3-5% FAB bid.

Josh Reynolds, Tennessee Titans (13% rostered)

This one comes with a caveat that Josh Reynolds is only worth a pickup if Julio Jones and A.J. Brown remain out. Reynolds didn’t have a single target on the season prior to Week 4, but he saw 9 in Tennessee’s loss to the Jets. He’s their WR1 with the top two guys out. Reynolds is worth a 1-3% FAB bid if you need a spot starter in Week 5.

Tight Ends

Which tight ends should you target on the waiver wire in Week 4?

Maxx Williams, Arizona Cardinals (15% rostered)

I don’t fully believe in Maxx Williams, but he’s posted TE1 numbers in two of the past three weeks. That’s at least enough to warrant a speculative add for a player in Arizona’s explosive offense. He’s 1% rostered in Yahoo leagues. You can throw a couple of bucks of FAB on him.

Dalton Schultz, Dallas Cowboys (58% rostered)

After four weeks, we can safely declare Dalton Schultz the Cowboys’ primary tight end. He played 80% of the snaps while Blake Jarwin played about half. Schultz has 15 total targets in his past two games. Rostered in just 33% of Yahoo leagues, he’s as good of a back-end TE1 as anyone and is worth a 3-5% FAB bid.

Taylor Swift Is Shown Chugging a Beer on the Jumbotron at Super Bowl 58

Global superstar Taylor Swift made it to the big game to support her boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce. In the second quarter, it was evident that she was having a good time at the Super Bowl after taking a 12-hour flight from Tokyo the night prior.

Swift’s attendance has been highly anticipated, as many fans questioned whether she would be able to make it to the big game since she had been in Japan until Saturday for her Eras Tour.

Sure enough, she made it to the Super Bowl and was seen making a grand entrance alongside Blake Lively and Ice Spice.

Swift made it back to the States with plenty of time to make it to Allegiant Stadium to support Kelce. After a leg of her Eras Tour, where she performed several nights in Japan, the singer appeared to let loose.

In a box full of friends, Swift was shown chugging a beer with Ashley Avignone. She was shown on the jumbotron and slammed her cup down after she finished her beer.

There was a mix of cheers and boos as Swift was shown on the big screen, and a long pass to Mecole Hardman was the only highlight of the first half for Swift and her friends. The 49ers led the Chiefs, 10-0, late in the second quarter.

On social media, Swift garnered plenty of support from NFL fans.

“If you’re hating on her you can kick rocks man she’s the best,” one user posted on X.

“The one thing I learned this season is that she is actually fun,” another said.

“Booing Taylor Swift chugging a beer is so soft. She’s just one of us now and I respect it ,” another posted.

At the time of the beer chugging, Kelce, Taylor Swift’s boyfriend, has had one catch for a single yard. It came on the first possession, which ended up being a three-and-out. The Kansas City Chiefs hadn’t done much otherwise.

They did have a deep pass play to Hardman, which put them in the red zone, but Isiah Pacheco fumbled on the very next play — one that Kelce was surprisingly on the sideline for.

Swift and Kelce have garnered much media attention as their romance has taken off throughout this NFL season.

Swift was able to support her boyfriend at many of his games throughout the final stretch of the season, as her Eras Tour was on a break. But starting on Feb. 7, she went back on the road.

Despite performing in Tokyo the night before the Super Bowl, she was able to make it in time to support her boyfriend due to the time difference and is having a good time doing so.

What Happened to the 49ers Linebacker?

The San Francisco 49ers sustained a massive blow during the second quarter of Super Bowl 58, as linebacker Dre Greenlaw left the game on a medical cart.

CBS Sports confirmed that the veteran Greenlaw suffered an Achilles tear, ruling him out for the rest of the game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

What Happened to Dre Greenlaw?

The outside linebacker, who had already been battling past injuries to his hamstrings and calves, left with what appeared to be a leg injury.

And somehow, his left leg looked like it buckled as he tried to trot onto the field with the Niners’ defense.

Greenlaw clutched his left leg in agony before being helped off the field.

CBS Sports sideline reporter Evan Washburn reported that the outside linebacker left with what was ruled as a lower leg injury. He was later determined to sustain an Achilles injury.

Greenlaw was declared out for the rest of the game.

Even more noticeable was where Greenlaw sat on the cart.

He ended up leaving not in the back of the medical vehicle but ended up riding shotgun with his leg injury.

One would think that with an injury like an Achilles ailment, medical officials would try to make the player as comfortable as possible before they leave. It wasn’t the case here.

Regardless, Greenlaw was replaced by Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles for the rest of the first half. Greenlaw became the most significant injury of the game.

NFL World Reacts to Epic Super Bowl Intro From CBS

Super Bowl 58 is here and it’s going to be exciting. The San Francisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs are facing off in the final game of 2023.

CBS is broadcasting the game and the opening was nothing short of amazing. How is the NFL world reacting to the electric Super Bowl-opening video?

Epic CBS Super Bowl Intro Garners Reaction From NFL World

The video, which spanned four minutes and 19 seconds, featured players from both teams talking about the big game and what it means to them. It also featured their families talking about their journeys to this point.

Additionally, Frank Sinatra’s “My Way” played in the background, giving it a near-movie feel. “This was incredible.,” another person said on X. “And so, the @49ers and @Chiefs face that final curtain,” CBS Sports said.

The 49ers finished the regular season as the top seed in the NFC with a 12-5 record. After their first-round bye, they defeated both the Green Bay Packers and Detroit Lions to earn their trip to Las Vegas for the Super Bowl. Both of their victories came in comeback fashion, including an NFC Championship-record 17-point comeback.

The Chiefs, on the other hand, had a more uphill battle. Entering the playoffs as the AFC’s third seed, they finished the regular season with an 11-6 record. In the playoffs, they defeated the Miami Dolphins, Buffalo Bills, and Baltimore Ravens to punch their ticket.

Super Bowl 58 is a re-match of Super Bowl 54 when the Chiefs defeated the 49ers 31-24. The win was the first in Patrick Mahomes career, as he also won Super Bowl MVP. Four years later, the Chiefs have made three more and won another. For the 49ers, this is their first trip back to the big game since.

The game kicked off at 6:30 p.m. ET with the 49ers receiving the opening kick. In addition to being broadcast on CBS, the game is also being streamed on Paramount+.
