Season Preview

When we put together our Preseason All-America teams, we followed one guiding principle: If we were building a team to win the 2024 national title, which players would we choose? We use the same philosophy to construct our Player Rankings — think of them as an extension of our Preseason All-America teams.

These are NOT professional prospect lists, though they do take pure talent into consideration. Players who proved themselves against top competition in summer ball and look poised for breakout years might rank higher on the list than other players who had gaudier stats from last spring. We considered past performance[…]

Back for another go around

The last time Oregon State righthander Joey Mundt took the mound in a game prior to this weekend, it was a disaster. After four hitless innings in two prior appearances in the 2021 Dallas Regional, Mundt tried to come back for a third time in four days to help pitch the Beavers past host Dallas Baptist and on to the super regionals. But the first pitch he threw resulted in a go-ahead grand slam. He hit the next two batters and his day was done. Two innings later, so was the Beavers’ season.

Mundt has[…]

Okay StitchHeads, we are heading out for week No. 2 in our 2024 college baseball season. And that’s a good thing because the opening week of the college baseball season was pretty disappointing. Most of the top-ranked teams played a bunch of tomato cans and were pretty much just out there padding their stat sheets. Yuck. Thankfully, the schedule gets a little bit better this weekend.

FIVE THINGS I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS WEEKEND.

1- The 2018 National Championship rematch.

The highlight of the weekend will be the Arkansas-Oregon State Friday night tip-off at Globe Life Field in Arlington[…]

The Schoch Factor

On this episode of The Schoch Factor Podcast, Stephen Schoch is joined by three guys who had big moments during Opening Weekend to get some insight into what was going through their heads as they kicked off the 2024 season with a bang.

We lead off with Sacramento State’s Matt Masciangelo, who was plunked eight times over the course of three games against LMU. We hear from him about what it takes to absolutely wear it for the team. Next up we have South Carolina’s Roman Kimball, who found his way back to the mound in a big way after a long hiatus rehabbing from injury. What did that look like? Well, how about setting the tone for a combined no-hitter. Then, to wrap it all up, we have the player who kicked off his Wake Forest career with a bang in Adam Tellier. Tellier took the first pitch thrown to a Demon Deacon this year and promptly sent it out of the park.

We have all that and more, so make sure to tune in and check it out!
