Derrick Rose has a $15.6 million player option for next season

This offseason, the New York Knicks have a few business moves they need to prioritize. One of them is veteran PG Derrick Rose’s contract for next season. As it stands, the 34-year-old is due $15.6 million in a player option for next season. The Knicks would love to have his veteran presence as a mentor in the locker room, but on a friendlier contract. If negotiations fall through, one NBA insider thinks the Chicago Bulls would be a great fit for Rose.
Rose’s mentorship and leadership in the locker room have been invaluable to the team’s continuing to build chemistry. While Rose has been used rather sparingly in his time with New York, head coach Tom Thibodeau knows what he means to this roster.
The Knicks have until June 24 to decide on Rose’s team option for the 2o23-24 season. He originally signed a three-year, $41 million deal back in 2021.

League sources say that a reunion between Derrick Rose and the Bulls is not out of the question
Michael Scotto from HoopsHype had the report on Derrick Rose being a good fit for the Bulls. He also said that he’s heard that members of New York’s front office are questioning how much gas Rose has left in the tank. There’s no question he’s not the player he once was.
His $15.6 million player option for next season is a lot for someone who played in only 27 games during 2022-23. There’s a strong chance that New York could decline that option, leaving Rose available on the market. Scotto said he thinks the Chicago Bulls would be a great fit for Rose at this stage of his career.
Returning to Chicago would be a great homecoming for the 2010-11 MVP. He played his best seasons in the NBA with the Bulls. With Lono Ball’s status for next season undetermined, Rose could be a valued piece on the Bulls’ bench.

LeBron James Attends Bronny’s High School Graduation Ceremony

LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers were swept by the Denver Nuggets in the 2023 Western Conference Finals this past Monday, but the 19-time All-Star still had one thing to celebrate: Bronny’s, his 18-year-old son, high school graduation ceremony on Thursday.
Bronny is now an official graduate of Sierra Canyon School, a private, coeducational university-preparatory day school located in Los Angeles, California.
LeBron and his wife, Savannah James, were in attendance. Gloria, Bronny’s grandma, was also spotted at graduation. On Instagram, LeBron posted, “Continue to fly high,” with a crown emoji.
Referring to a few NBA betting sites, LeBron James is not expected to retire this offseason. This is good news for Lakers fans. However, the Philadelphia 76ers are the favorites to trade for the 20-year veteran.
Bronny is the eldest child of LeBron James and is a four-star recruit. During his senior year, the combo guard averaged 14.2 points, 5.2 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 1.8 steals per game, helping lead the Trailblazers to a 23-11 record. He was then selected to play in the McDonald’s All-American Game and Nike Hoop Summit.
In the McDonald’s All-American Game, James scored 15 points, including five three-pointers, in his team’s 109–106 loss. He also finished second in the event’s dunk contest. Of course, in the Nike Hoop Summit, he scored 11 points in his team’s 90-84 win.

Furthermore, Bronny ranks No. 26 in the nation, No. 6 as a combo guard, and No. 7 in California, per 247Sports. Director of scouting Adam Finkelstein submitted his scouting report on Bronny to the athletic recruitment website on Apr. 8.
“Bronny James is a strong-bodied combo-guard with a well-rounded game,” Finkelstein said. “As the eldest son of LeBron James, his every move has been under a magnifying glass since before he played his first high school game. To his credit, that has never stopped him from playing the right way.

“In fact, Bronny’s best attribute may be his understanding of how to impact the game without dominating the ball or forcing bad shots. He’s unselfish, a more than willing passer, and engaged defender. The best part of his individual offense is his ability to shoot the ball from long-range.”
On May 6, Bronny announced his commitment to USC. The guard signed his letter of intent last week. The 6-foot-3 standout had received other offers from Ohio State and Memphis. Therefore, James will remain in California to play for the Pac-12 contender.

NBA developing in-game penalty for flopping which would result in a technical free throw – Basketball Insiders

Finally the NBA is catching up with the rest of the world’s basketball rule book, as the days of watching players exaggerate contact in orden to get a foul call might soon be over. It has been reported that the Competition Committee is discussing an in-game penalty for flopping that would result in a technical free throw.
According to insider Shams Charania, athletes will stop trying to manipulate the officials by trying to entice a whistle in their favor after this new rule is set in stone in the league. The reporter announces that a “trial is possible at Summer League in July.”
Flopping has been a problem in the NBA for years now, as players are constantly trying to trick the referees. At the beginning of the month, coach Steve Kerr begged the league to punish flops during their Western Conference semifinal series against the Los Angeles Lakers.
This wasn’t the first time that Kerr has pushed on the matter, as he’s suggested that the NBA should imitate how the rest of the world deals with these situations.
“I think, to me, what I’ve learned coaching in FIBA… There’s a flop rule,” Kerr told the press. “If a referee deems a player has flopped, they just call it a technical foul, and it’s pretty penalizing. And so the flopping has basically been eliminated from FIBA, and we have the ability to do the same thing in the NBA if we want.
“I think we should address it, because the players are so smart, and the entire regular season is about gamesmanship and trying to fool the refs. And this is how it’s been for a while, and it’s up to us as a league. Do we want to fix this?,” he kept at it.
“These are all things that are my personal plea to the NBA. I think we can do better in terms of cleaning up the flopping. In the meantime, I give the Lakers credit for the plays that they’ve been able to sell.”
Just as Kerr wanted, the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) has imposed a flopping rule that results in a technical free throw, just what the NBA is developing.
Even though the league does have its set of punishments for flopping, none of them have an in-game consequence. Most of them require a postgame video review that eventually fines the players directly.
The Lakers had been under criticism lately for alledged flops throughout the playoffs
“We don’t teach flopping. We teach our players to play downhill and attack the paint and be forceful,” coach Darvin Ham said after numerous questioning from the press.
Take a look at what ESPN’s “Around the Horn” panel thinks of the NBA finally admitting they have a flor problem:
The all-time scoring leader in the league, LeBron James, has been one of the most criticized players this season. “I just know that we, our coaching staff and us players, we don’t work on flopping. That’s not even part of our game. Our game is to attack, attack the paint. We don’t mind physical contact, we actually like the contact, we don’t shy away from it,” he answered when his integrity was in question.
“We’re just not a team that goes out there looking for flopping opportunities. That’s just not us. It’s actually never been any team that I’ve played on in 20 years where we’ve been a flopping team,” he concluded.
