Top 12 Targets Include Jordan Love, Tyjae Spears, and Gabe Davis

Published

on

Millions of people are identifying fantasy football sleepers for the 2023 NFL season. Are you one of them? If so, here are 12 guys whose market values are comfortably below realistic expectations for the coming year, including several rookies with mammoth upside.

Fantasy Football Sleepers

While it’s still early, FantasyPros’ compilation of expert rankings (“ECR”) is a useful guide for assessing roughly when players will be drafted in fantasy leagues. The following recommendations are based on each player’s ECR on May 22, 2023. In all likelihood, many of these players’ values will increase as the offseason continues.

Jordan Love, QB

ECR: QB22

You can tell a lot about a team’s interest in its players by when they draft these guys. But you can also tell a lot based on who they don’t draft.

While some people panned the Green Bay Packers for selecting Jordan Love in the first round in 2020, it’s notable that the only QB they’ve picked since then is Sean Clifford (2023 – Round 5). Green Bay also used three of their first four picks last month on a highly touted wideout and two seemingly NFL-ready tight ends.

In other words, the team appears committed to surrounding Love with the talent he needs to meet or even exceed 2020 expectations. They’re all in on their former prized pick, and fantasy managers should take notice.

Trey Lance, QB

ECR: QB26

These next two suggestions are designed to be hedges. If you’re drafting in 2QB/Superflex leagues and can snag Trey Lance and Brock Purdy, you’re almost assuredly locking in value on at least one of them. At these price points, it makes sense to roll the dice. Lance might be raw, and he might not even earn a start, but he brings electric upside in fantasy.

Brock Purdy, QB

ECR: QB28

Part two of the hedge. If Purdy is healthy, he’ll have the inside track to start Week 1. Even if he doesn’t, Purdy could take over at some point during the season, with the title-contending Niners deservedly impatient when it comes to locking down their preferred quarterback for a playoff run. Purdy’s a proven commodity at this point, despite his brief NFL tenure. If he’s named the Week 1 starter, Purdy’s ECR will skyrocket.

Tyjae Spears, RB

ECR: RB56

Will the Titans make the playoffs? I’d put the odds at below 50/50. That makes Derrick Henry (turning 30 in January) a major sell-high candidate before the trade deadline.

If Tennessee agrees, then highly touted rookie Tyjae Spears could step into the starting role by November. Spears’ three-down-back abilities could transform him into a top-30 RB overnight.

Chase Brown, RB

ECR: RB58

As Joe Mixon’s legal issues hang in the air, and as he continues to lag behind most starters when it comes to efficiency (3.8 yards per carry in his last 400 carries), there’s room for rookie Chase Brown to step into a decent Samaje Perine-like complementary role.

Or, if Mixon’s found guilty, the team might feel compelled to move forward with Brown for the rest of the season. Either way, Brown’s fantasy value will almost certainly go up.

Eric Gray, RB

ECR: RB77

An almost perfect landing spot for rookie Eric Gray, who has a shot at winning the RB2 job behind Saquon Barkley. Of course, Barkley and the New York Giants are still at odds regarding contract negotiations.

Barkley wants (and deserves) a long-term deal. The Giants want (and deserve) to take a cautious approach with their often-injured star running back. It’s not farfetched to envision Gray playing a 1B role alongside Barkley, with a chance to earn some spot starts.

Keaontay Ingram, RB

ECR: RB89

James Conner has dealt with durability concerns throughout his career and is now 28 years old. The Arizona Cardinals have one of the league’s thinnest backfields and are tied for the league’s worst odds of winning the Super Bowl.

MORE: Fantasy Scoring | Fantasy Draft Strategy

In other words, at some point this season, Arizona will probably be incentivized (or forced) to see what they have in former sixth-rounder Keaontay Ingram. And while Ingram might not be the next Eno Benjamin, he could be a back-end fantasy starter later this year.

Treylon Burks, WR

ECR: WR38

Why isn’t Treylon Burks ranked better? Probably because Tennessee’s QB situation remains in flux, with the possibility that rookie Will Levis could replace Ryan Tannehill at some point.

Beyond Burks, the Titans have one of the weakest WR-supporting casts in the NFL. The second-year wideout is the co-offensive centerpiece alongside Henry. Tannehill and/or Levis will do everything possible to feed their top receiver.

Gabe Davis, WR

ECR: WR42

Gabe Davis’ ranking assumes a regression after showing meaningful improvement last season. Arguably, he has better than 50/50 odds of matching his 2022 numbers or even taking another step forward. The knock on Davis is that he’s operated as more of a boom-bust fantasy option. But overall, he should easily exceed his WR42 expectations.

John Metchie III, WR

ECR: WR79

John Metchie III’s promising NFL career was put on standby after sustaining a season-ending ACL injury, followed by a leukemia diagnosis. Houston Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans has sounded tepidly optimistic about the former Alabama star returning to the fold. When he does, Metchie could quickly ascend to the WR1 role.

Van Jefferson, WR

ECR: WR84

For the same reasons the Titans might trade Henry, the Los Angeles Rams might send Cooper Kupp to a contender. The Rams are facing the very real prospect of a massive rebuild ahead of 2024 or 2025, and Kupp is entering his age-30 season. His value won’t get higher.

If/when his time in L.A. ends, Van Jefferson could become Matthew Stafford’s No. 1 wideout. At minimum, Jefferson will be a top-three receiver in Week 1 in an offense desperate for playmakers outside of Kupp.

Sam LaPorta, TE

ECR: TE24

Jameson Williams’ suspension compounds the need to reach for rookie Sam LaPorta. The Detroit Lions drafted LaPorta to be their next T.J. Hockenson, or something close to it.

Detroit is all in on a playoff run. LaPorta should be a top-four offensive option in Week 1, and no worse than a top-five option when Williams returns in October. The rookie is a great bet to crack the top 18 at this position, with a legitimate shot at creeping into the top 14.

Taylor Swift Is Shown Chugging a Beer on the Jumbotron at Super Bowl 58

Global superstar Taylor Swift made it to the big game to support her boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce. In the second quarter, it was evident that she was having a good time at the Super Bowl after taking a 12-hour flight from Tokyo the night prior.

Taylor Swift Seen Chugging Beer at Super Bowl

Swift’s attendance has been highly anticipated, as many fans questioned whether she would be able to make it to the big game since she had been in Japan until Saturday for her Eras Tour.

Sure enough, she made it to the Super Bowl and was seen making a grand entrance alongside Blake Lively and Ice Spice.

Swift made it back to the States with plenty of time to make it to Allegiant Stadium to support Kelce. After a leg of her Eras Tour, where she performed several nights in Japan, the singer appeared to let loose.

In a box full of friends, Swift was shown chugging a beer with Ashley Avignone. She was shown on the jumbotron and slammed her cup down after she finished her beer.

There was a mix of cheers and boos as Swift was shown on the big screen, and a long pass to Mecole Hardman was the only highlight of the first half for Swift and her friends. The 49ers led the Chiefs, 10-0, late in the second quarter.

On social media, Swift garnered plenty of support from NFL fans.

If you’re hating on her you can kick rocks man she’s the best,” one user posted on X

“The one thing I learned this season is that she is actually fun,” another said.

“Booing Taylor Swift chugging a beer is so soft. She’s just one of us now and I respect it ,” another posted.

At the time of the beer chugging, Kelce, Taylor Swift’s boyfriend, has had one catch for a single yard. It came on the first possession, which ended up being a three-and-out. The Kansas City Chiefs hadn’t done much otherwise.

They did have a deep pass play to Hardman, which put them in the red zone, but Isiah Pacheco fumbled on the very next play — one that Kelce was surprisingly on the sideline for.

Swift and Kelce have garnered much media attention as their romance has taken off throughout this NFL season.

Swift was able to support her boyfriend at many of his games throughout the final stretch of the season, as her Eras Tour was on a break. But starting on Feb. 7, she went back on the road.

Despite performing in Tokyo the night before the Super Bowl, she was able to make it in time to support her boyfriend due to the time difference and is having a good time doing so.

What Happened to the 49ers Linebacker?

Published

The San Francisco 49ers sustained a massive blow during the second quarter of Super Bowl 58, as linebacker Dre Greenlaw left the game on a medical cart.

CBS Sports confirmed that the veteran Greenlaw suffered an Achilles tear, ruling him out for the rest of the game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

What Happened to Dre Greenlaw?

The outside linebacker, who had already been battling past injuries to his hamstrings and calves, left with what appeared to be a leg injury.

And somehow, his left leg looked like it buckled as he tried to trot onto the field with the Niners’ defense.

Greenlaw clutched his left leg in agony before being helped off the field.

CBS Sports sideline reporter Evan Washburn reported that the outside linebacker left with what was ruled as a lower leg injury. He was later determined to sustain an Achilles injury.

Greenlaw was declared out for the rest of the game.

Greenlaw Carted Off in Passenger Seat

Even more noticeable was where Greenlaw sat on the cart.

He ended up leaving not in the back of the medical vehicle but ended up riding shotgun with his leg injury.

One would think that with an injury like an Achilles ailment, medical officials would try to make the player as comfortable as possible before they leave. It wasn’t the case here.

Regardless, Greenlaw was replaced by Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles for the rest of the first half. Greenlaw became the most significant injury of the game.

NFL World Reacts to Epic Super Bowl Intro From CBS

Published

Super Bowl 58 is here and it’s going to be exciting. The San Francisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs are facing off in the final game of 2023.

CBS is broadcasting the game and the opening was nothing short of amazing. How is the NFL world reacting to the electric Super Bowl-opening video?

Epic CBS Super Bowl Intro Garners Reaction From NFL World

The video, which spanned four minutes and 19 seconds, featured players from both teams talking about the big game and what it means to them. It also featured their families talking about their journeys to this point.

“Amazing intro! Reminds me of my dad! Bravo on the intro!,” one NFL fan said on X (formerly known as Twitter)

Additionally, Frank Sinatra’s “My Way” played in the background, giving it a near-movie feel. “This was incredible.,” another person said on X. “And so, the @49ers and @Chiefs face that final curtain,” CBS Sports said.

The 49ers finished the regular season as the top seed in the NFC with a 12-5 record. After their first-round bye, they defeated both the Green Bay Packers and Detroit Lions to earn their trip to Las Vegas for the Super Bowl. Both of their victories came in comeback fashion, including an NFC Championship-record 17-point comeback.

The Chiefs, on the other hand, had a more uphill battle. Entering the playoffs as the AFC’s third seed, they finished the regular season with an 11-6 record. In the playoffs, they defeated the Miami Dolphins, Buffalo Bills, and Baltimore Ravens to punch their ticket.

Super Bowl 58 is a re-match of Super Bowl 54 when the Chiefs defeated the 49ers 31-24. The win was the first in Patrick Mahomes career, as he also won Super Bowl MVP. Four years later, the Chiefs have made three more and won another. For the 49ers, this is their first trip back to the big game since.

The game kicked off at 6:30 p.m. ET with the 49ers receiving the opening kick. In addition to being broadcast on CBS, the game is also being streamed on Paramount+.
