Bianca Andreescu’s fourth-round match at the Miami Open was brought to an abrupt end. Midway through, she fell to the court, screaming in agony after rolling her ankle before leaving the court in a wheelchair. Bianca had racked up big wins over Emma Raducanu, Maria Sakkari, and Sofia Kenin to reach the round-of-16 at the Miami Open.
The Canadian was up against the No. 18 seed Ekaterina Alexandrova, losing the first set in a one-sided tiebreak. She battled back at the start of the second by immediately breaking the Russian’s serve, but disaster struck in the third game.
Bianca slipped and immediately fell to the ground, screaming in agony and clutching her lower leg. The chair umpire went down to check on her and ask if the former US Open champion needed anything.
Mortifying scenes in Miami as Bianca Andreescu falls and hurts herself.
This audio is heartbreaking to listen to.
“I’ve never felt this kind of pain before.”
Bianca does not deserve this again.

The 22-year-old replied: “I’ve never felt this kind of pain before!”
Speaking through tears to the medic, she was heard crying: “It’s so bad! It’s so bad!” And then she shouted: “Not again!”
Ever since winning the US Open four years ago, Bianca’s career has been plagued by injuries. In 2021 at the Miami Open final, she suffered a right ankle injury against Ashleigh Barty.
Former coach to Roger Federer, Paul Annacone called the Canadian’s latest injury “heartbreaking” and wished her a speedy recovery.
“We’ve seen the level of play that she’s shown us in the past. What a great player,” he said. “You talk about the injury bug, she just hasn’t been able to stay healthy, and now she’s finally getting back on court, consistently playing at the highest levels of the game.
“These are one of those things that you just don’t know why.”
