Coby Morales and the Washington Huskies were fired up to beat UCLA.

Eric Sorenson – March 27, 2023

WESTWOOD, Cali — Ahhhh, Sunday college baseball returns. Or maybe I should say it rears its ugly head? Not in a 90s-type way where teams are hitting 10 home runs and scoring 13 runs. But more like the pitching is getting thin and the offenses are dictating the winners of the weekend. Either way, Washington head coach Jason Kelly accepts the way Sundays go in our sport, especially when his Huskies can take to an 11-10 series clinching win on the road against the 7th-ranked team in the country.

“That’s the way Sunday is,” Kelly said afterward. “You can throw[…]

The USC Trojans and their shirtless hero Brayden Dowd, celebrate beating Oregon State.

At The Ballpark

IRVINE, Calif — A few years ago I went to see a band called The Dollyrots play at a club in the Deep Ellum part of downtown Dallas. The opening band was an all-girl trio called Tough on Fridays. After all, it absolutely tormented Florida State’s pitching staff — especially the bullpen — at home last weekend. Well, going on the road to Mark Light to face the Hurricanes was a different story, thanks to Miami starting pitcher Gage Ziehl and others. The Hurricanes beat the Tigers 3-2 on a walk-off two-run home run[…]

Duke’s Ben Miller started growing this amazing mustache in October (Aaron Fitt)

At The Ballpark

DURHAM, N.C. — After No. 11 Duke turned in a stellar all-around team performance in a 9-4 win against No. 9 Virginia on Thursday, the first thing Blue Devils coach Chris Pollard wanted to talk about was how well his players communicated with each other — in the dugout, on the infield, in between at-bats. That’s not something you often hear coaches talk about, especially after a dominant win that featured stellar play in all phases of the game, but Pollard thinks and talks about baseball in a different way than most coaches, and he’s always strikingly insightful in his[…]
