HOUSTON — Nothing could’ve shown what Pat Hallmark’s UTSA program is all about more than how ace righthanded pitcher Luke Malone handled a precarious situation in the bottom of the sixth inning in Friday’s 4-3 win over Rice.

Malone allowed a two-run home run from Rice’s Guy Garibay in the first inning Friday afternoon but had put up several zeroes before the Owls came to the plate in the bottom of the sixth. In that frame, Malone, a 6-foot-3, 215-pounder, induced a groundout from Pierce Gallo and got Garibay to ground out for two quick outs. The next batter, Drew[…]

The USC Trojans and their shirtless hero Brayden Dowd, celebrate beating Oregon State.

At The Ballpark

Well, going on the road to Mark Light to face the Hurricanes was a different story, thanks to Miami starting pitcher Gage Ziehl and others. The Hurricanes beat the Tigers 3-2 on a walk-off two-run home run[…]

At The Ballpark

DURHAM, N.C. — After No. 11 Duke turned in a stellar all-around team performance in a 9-4 win against No. 9 Virginia on Thursday, the first thing Blue Devils coach Chris Pollard wanted to talk about was how well his players communicated with each other — in the dugout, on the infield, in between at-bats. That’s not something you often hear coaches talk about, especially after a dominant win that featured stellar play in all phases of the game, but Pollard thinks and talks about baseball in a different way than most coaches, and he’s always strikingly insightful in his[…]
