Fullerton might be starting to ascend the ranks out West.

Analysis

It was a pretty rough week for the teams out West as conference play has kicked in and the usual amount of cannibalism takes its toll. Teams like Arizona, Oregon State, UC Irvine and Washington State took some tumbles with series losses last weekend. Meanwhile blue bloods like UCLA, Stanford and UC Santa Barbara went spotless and solidified their standing as the top cats in these occidental circles.

With that backdrop we take a look at how things stack up for the teams from the Rockies to the Cascades and from the desert to the seashore.

Michigan State’s lefty-swinging shortstop Mitch Jebb produced a .948 OPS as a sophomore last season, stealing 20 bases in 28 attempts and punishing pitchers with 19 extra-base hits, including three triples and six homers.

This season, his numbers have diminished a bit so far with an .843 OPS, five extra-base hits, four steals and no homers. But his line of .321/.390/.453 is still plenty good.

RALEIGH AND WINSTON-SALEN, N.C. — With better weather forecasted for the the Carolinas, I was off to Raleigh for a Thursday-Saturday ACC series between NC State and Virginia. In between that three-game set, I mixed in a high school game for Prep Baseball Report, the series opener of Winthrop at Campbell and then lucked into a game of Notre Dame at Wake Forest when weather forced that series to reschedule into a Saturday doubleheader.

Here’s a quick look at what I saw from our 2023 Top 100 prospects, along with notes on some additional prospects who impressed.
