Former NBA player Scot Pollard finds donor for heart transplant

Former NBA player Scot Pollard found a heart transplant donor at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee, where he was admitted Feb. 7. His wife, Dawn Pollard, broke the news on Friday.

“Scot wanted me to let everyone know that the pre-heart transplant hair is gone, it’s go time!” Pollard’s wife Dawn posted on X. “Please keep the prayers coming for Scot, the surgeons, for the donor and his family who lost their loved one. This donor gave the most amazing gift of life and we are forever grateful.

Later that night, Dawn provided an update.

“I’m staying here until I get a heart,” he said in a text message to The Associated Press from his hospital room. “My heart got weaker. [Doctors] agree this is my best shot at getting a heart quicker.”

In a heart transplant procedure, a surgeon removes the diseased heart and sews the donor heart in place, according to the Mayo Clinic’s description. The doctor then attaches the major blood vessels to the donor heart.

Most procedures last approximately four hours.

Furthermore, Pollard was selected 19th overall by the Detroit Pistons in the 1997 NBA Draft out of the University of Kansas. He played 11 seasons in the NBA. The 6-foot-11 center was with Detroit just for his rookie 1997-98 season.

The big man then went on to play for the Sacramento Kings from 1998 to 2003, followed by the Indiana Pacers (2003-06), Cleveland Cavaliers (2006-07 season) and Boston Celtics (2007-08 season).

Excluding his rookie season, Pollard appeared in the NBA playoffs every season. He lost the 2007 NBA Finals with LeBron James and the Cavaliers against the San Antonio Spurs.

However, Pollard won a championship with the Celtics in his final NBA season with Paul Pierce and the Celtics against Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers.

In 506 career games (99 starts), he averaged 4.4 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 16.5 minutes per game. Also, he shot 49.4% from the field and 70.9% at the foul line.

Additionally, he averaged career highs of 6.5 points (2000-01) and 7.1 rebounds (2001-02) with Sacramento. The center shot a career-best 55% from the field in 2001-02 as well.

Pollard wore jersey Nos. 31, 62, and 66.

In 2016, Pollard appeared as a contestant in Survivor: Kaôh Rōng, the 32nd season of the American reality television series. He placed eighth, being the ninth person voted off.

NBA Hall of Famer Gary Payton Says LeBron James is Staying Put

NBA Hall of Famer Gary Payton was asked about the ongoing rumors pertaining to LeBron James potentially leaving the Los Angeles Lakers this offseason. The 20-time All-Star has a $51.41 million player option for 2024-25 that he could decline in the months ahead.

“LeBron did what he wanted — [what] he was supposed to. He said, ‘I’m staying where I’m at,’” Payton told Yahoo Sports prior to All-Star Weekend in Indianapolis. “LeBron is not going nowhere. L.A. is his city right now, his town. Kobe [Bryant] is really … it’s Kobe’s city.

“But LeBron is taking over now. He’s been traveling too many times, been to Cleveland, you know. He been to Miami, went back to Cleveland. This is his last stop, man.”

Payton will serve as one of the five judges for the AT&T Slam Dunk Competition on Saturday night, along with Darnell Hillman, Fred Jones, Mitch Richmond, and Dominique Wilkins.

Before the 2024 NBA trade deadline, the Golden State Warriors made an unsuccessful bid to Lakers owner Jeanie Buss to pair James with longtime rival Stephen Curry.

NBA legend Gary Payton said LeBron James will remain with Lakers after Warriors failed to acquire him

Additionally, Warriors owner Joe Lacob reached out to Buss to inquire whether James’ public frustration could be viewed as an opening to discuss a trade.

However, neither the Lakers nor James were willing to explore a potential trade.

Buss told Lacob the Lakers had no desire to trade James. Afterwards, she recommended to Lacob that he should reach out to James’ agent, Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul.

On the eve of the NBA trade deadline, Paul told Lacob and Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. that James had no interest in a trade and wanted to remain a Laker.

Dunleavy had been told the same after he reached out to Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka in the final hours prior to the deadline.

Will James sign with the Los Angeles Clippers?

Moreover, James could also decline his option and re-sign with the Lakers on a new deal. The 21-year veteran would seek an annual raise, according to ESPN NBA insider Brian Windhorst.

There is one other scenario. Maybe James will switch teams without leaving Los Angeles. It is still possible for the four-time MVP to opt out and sign a deal with the Los Angeles Clippers. The Lakers are not getting it done.

Besides, he already won a ring with L.A. in the Orlando Bubble.

If the Clippers fall short again this season, perhaps the contender would welcome such a signing. A team with James Harden, Kawhi Leonard, Paul George, and James would definitely be interesting.

If the Clippers somehow draft Bronny, it could be a done deal. Bronny, his eldest son, is a 6-foot-4 freshman guard for the USC Trojans. James will end up playing for whichever team drafts him.

Bronny is eligible for the upcoming 2024 NBA Draft. A team could draft Bronny to add LeBron.

Doc Rivers Discontent With Bucks’ Effort in Loss to Grizzlies – Basketball Insiders

Head coach, Doc Rivers, has not gotten off to a great start with the Milwaukee Bucks. The team is 3-7 during his stint and they just lost to an extremely short-handed Memphis Grizzlies squad. Memphis shot 53 percent from the field and were led by the promising rookie forward, G.G. Jackson. Jackson poured in 27 points coming off the Grizzlies’ bench. After the loss, Rivers called out his team’s effort.

“We had some guys here. We had some guys in Cabo,” Rivers said.

While Milwaukee is still a top team in the Eastern Conference, they are slowly slipping under Doc Rivers. The Bucks must turn things around soon if they want to compete against the likes of the Boston Celtics.

Head Coach, Doc Rivers, Unsatisfied With Team Effort Against Short-Handed Memphis Grizzlies

Milwaukee During the Doc Rivers Era

The Bucks are struggling to find a rhythm under Doc Rivers. Many questioned why they let go of now former coach, Adrian Griffin, to begin with when they hired Rivers. The team seems to be out for themselves, and they have lost to teams such as the Miami Heat, Memphis Grizzlies, Utah Jazz, and Portland Trail Blazers. All teams who have losing records or underperforming this season.

While they still have Giannis Antetokounmpo, Damian Lillard, and Khris Middleton, the star trio has also had their fair share of ups and downs this year. Doc Rivers was a puzzling coaching hire to many NBA peers considering his playoff shortcomings and blown 3-1 postseason leads. Especially given the timing of the decision. Not to mention, he should have a lot more on his coaching resume with all the talent he has had throughout the years.

Their Title Odds

The Milwaukee Bucks are still a contender as of now. They currently possess odds of +550 which are third best behind the Boston Celtics and defending champion, Denver Nuggets. Not to mention, they possess a team offensive rating of 119.9, a team rebounding percentage of 49.9 percent, a team three-point shooting field goal percent of 37.5 percent, and average 26.7 assists per game as a team.

The talent and numbers are still there for the Bucks. They are an elite offensive powerhouse. However, it is looking more and more like they made a mistake by firing previous head coach, Adrian Griffin, in the middle of the season. The Milwaukee Bucks potentially set back their championship chances by making such a drastic change in the middle of the regular.
