Knicks, Clippers working towards Nerlens Noel trade

Published

on

The Knicks are working on a Nerlens Noel trade with the Clippers to help clear up cap space for Jalen Brunson. Noel is injury prone, so this is the right decision by Knicks president Leon Rose. Kemba Walker was traded to the Pistons last Thursday, and he is set to earn $9,165,471 for the 2022-23 season. Now, per Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, the Knicks are seeking more cap space to sign the Mavericks’ free agent guard.

“The Knicks have had exploratory discussions on trading center Nerlens Noel to the Clippers,” said Scotto. Knicks G.M. Scott Perry is serious about pursuing Brunson. The front office offered him a reported four-year, $100 million deal. The guard is looking to get paid. He was selected 33rd overall by the Mavericks in the 2018 NBA Draft. The New Jersey native earned $1,802,057 last season with Dallas.

In the Mavericks’ 110-104 win over the Jazz in Game 2 of their first-round playoff series, Brunson scored a career-high 41 points. And he closed out his performance with eight rebounds and five assists as well. Equally important, the guard finished fourth in voting for the Sixth Man of the Year Award.

Furthermore, Rick Brunson — Jalen’s father — is now an assistant coach on Tom Thibodeau’s coaching staff. In a total of 79 games played in the 2021-22 season, Brunson averaged 16.3 points, 3.9 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game. Not to mention, the 25-year-old shot 50.2% from the field and 37.3% from 3-point range.

A Nerlens Noel trade for the Clippers might backfire

If Noel gets traded, the Knicks will have an additional $25 million in cap space. The nine-year veteran is projected to earn $9.240 million next season, and he has a team option worth $9.680 million for the 2023-24 season. These amounts do not include incentives.

All things considered, this trade mostly benefits New York. The center appeared in only 25 games last season. He averaged 3.4 points, 5.6 rebounds and almost 1.0 assist per game. The 28-year-old missed several games in the 2021-22 season due to knee, hamstring and foot injuries. In fact, Noel has never played a full season in his entire NBA career.

Nevertheless, the Clippers will make this trade happen because Isaiah Hartenstein is an unrestricted free agent. The 7′ center averaged 8.3 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game. Noel would only be a serviceable replacement if he can manage to stay on the court. Even then, if Hartenstein leaves Los Angeles, this could still be a damaging loss for the Clippers’ rim protection.

For the Clippers to remain competitive next season, Kawhi Leonard and Paul George have to stay healthy. That should go without saying. Adding John Wall to the mix will help out, too. Leonard is coming off an ACL tear he sustained in Game 4 of the Clippers’ second-round series against the Jazz in the 2021 NBA Playoffs. He has not played in a game since then.

Steph Curry signs Pete Davidson Michael Jackson hoodie

Steph Curry signed the pink Michael Jackson hoodie that Pete Davidson wore when Curry broke the all-time 3-pointer record at Madison Square Garden.

Davidson, a former Saturday Night Live star, decided to wear a pink hoodie, while all the other NBA fans around him wore white, blue and orange colors. No one could miss him, especially considering he had a courtside seat.

On December 14, 2021, during the first quarter of the Warriors’ 105-96 win over the Knicks, Curry sank his 2,974th career 3-pointer. As soon as the 13-year veteran made the basket, Davidson was one of the loudest fans celebrating in the arena.

This autograph is a big deal to the former SNL cast member because all the iconic photos of Curry’s record-breaking shot will feature his pink M.J. hoodie.

It seems fitting to wear a “King of Pop” hoodie to an important game to support the “King of 3-pointers.”

According to TMZ, Nick Drbal received the hoodie from Pete’s camp to have Curry sign it. Drbal is Steph’s memorabilia partner.

Furthermore, Curry ended his performance with a team-high 22 points in 35 minutes played. He finished 8-for-19 from the field and 5-14 from 3-point range.

In the 2021-22 NBA season, the Finals MVP made 285 3-pointers. All things considered, it was not his best season. And that’s ok. By the end of the 2015-16 season, Curry sank a career-high 402 3-pointers.

His MVP performance that season was magical. The baby-faced assassin averaged 30.1 points, 5.4 rebounds, 6.7 assists and 2.1 steals per game.

He also averaged a career-high 50.4% from beyond the arc as well. Entering the 2022-23 season, the four-time NBA champion has 3,117 made shots from downtown.

The guard will only distance himself from his competition in the coming years. He turns 35 next year.

Therefore, it’s probably a great idea for fans to hang onto Steph Curry-autographed merchandise. Even Davidson’s M.J. hoodie will be worth a high-dollar amount when the two-time scoring champion retires.

Celtics sign guard Denzel Valentine to one-year deal

Published

The Boston Celtics have signed Denzel Valentine to a one-year deal. This is a non-guaranteed contract. The fifth-year player was selected 14th overall by the Chicago Bulls in the 2016 NBA Draft. The 6’4″ guard played with the Bulls from 2016–21.

In the 2017-18 season, while with Chicago, Valentine averaged career-highs 10.2 points, 5.1 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game. Out of 77 games played that season, the guard started in 37 contests.

Furthermore, on March, 17, 2018, in the Bulls’ 114-109 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers, Valentine scored a career-high 34 points in 39 minutes of action. The guard shot 13-for-20 (65%) from the field and 8-for-11 (72.7%) from downtown. Can he play this well on the Celtics? Only time will tell.

After playing for the Bulls, on September 22, 2021, the guard signed a multi-year contract with the Cavaliers. However, Valentine only played 22 games with the Cavs last season.

On January 3, 2022, the Cavs traded him to the New York Knicks. Two days later, the Knicks waived him. Then, he signed a 10-day contract with the Utah Jazz. He went on to play just two games with the Jazz.

Denzel Valentine can help the Celtics next season

Moreover, in 12 games played with the Maine Celtics — the team’s NBA G League affiliate — last season, the guard averaged 14.6 points, 10.3 rebounds, 7 assists and 1.1 steals per game.

As a teenager, the Lansing, Michigan, native attended J.W. Sexton High School. In his senior season, the Red Hawks finished 27-1, and Valentine averaged 14 points, 11 rebounds and 9 assists per game.

Through 144 games played in the NCAA with Michigan State, Valentine averaged 11.4 points, 5.9 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game. Also, he averaged 44.2% shooting from the field and 40.8% from 3-point range.

During his junior season, he was selected to the third-team All-Big Ten in 2015. It will be interesting to see how Celtics coach Ime Udoka utilizes Valentine.

In his senior 2015-16 season, the guard also recorded career-high numbers across the board. In 31 games played, Valentine averaged 19.2 points, 7.5 rebounds, 7.8 assists and 1 steal per game. Not to mention, he finished 46.2% shooting from the floor and 44.4% from beyond the arc.

As a senior, the guard won several awards in 2016: AP Player of the Year, NABC Player of the Year, Senior CLASS Award, Julius Irving Award, Lute Olson Award, Big Ten Player of the Year and Big Ten Tournament MOP.

To add to the aforementioned accomplishments, Valentine was selected to the first-team All-Big Ten and consensus first-team All-American in 2016.

The fifth-year player turns 29 this November. If the guard survives training camp, he’ll help add depth to the Celtics’ backcourt. He first has to make the roster. The NBA G League might be a better fit. Other news stories related to Denzel Valentine are on the main page.

The Golden State Warriors unveiled their new Statement Edition and Classic Edition uniforms for the 2022-23 season. The Classic Edition will feature the notable “Run TMC” style uniforms.

Plus, the Warriors basketball logo will appear on the left side of the shorts.

For the Statement Edition uniforms, “Golden State” will be visible across the chest. This will be the first time since 1975 the city name will be distinguishable on the front of the jersey.

The Nike logo at the top right of the jersey looks neat as well. The Statement Edition uniforms look similar to the University of Michigan football jerseys.

Of course, from 1962–71, the team competed as the San Francisco Warriors. From 1946–62, the team played as the Philadelphia Warriors.

In 1971, the team officially became known as the Golden State Warriors. Notable stars in the ’90s include Mitch Richmond, Chris Mullin and Tim Hardaway.

Mullin played the first 12 seasons of his NBA career with the Warriors. He averaged a career-high 26.5 points per game with Golden State in the 1988-89 season. Mullin is featured in the Twitter video above, unveiling the team’s new uniforms.

Furthermore, in the early ’90s under head coach Don Nelson, the Warriors advanced as far as the conference semifinals in the 1990-91 season. They finished 44-38 (.537), and the team went on to lose in five games against the Los Angeles Lakers.

Then, after finishing 55-27 (.671) in the 1991-92 season, Nelson won Coach of the Year. The team finished second overall in the Western Conference standings. Two seasons later, Chris Webber also won Rookie of the Year.

Anyway, for the first time since 1997, the jerseys will display a “Captain’s badge” on the jerseys of the Warriors’ captains next season.

Entering the 2022-23 season, the Golden State Warriors are aiming to repeat as champions. In the 2022 NBA Finals, they defeated the Boston Celtics in six games.

After averaging 31.2 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists per game, eight-time All-Star Stephen Curry won his first Finals MVP.

The Warriors won their fourth championship in eight years and seventh title overall in franchise history. It was also the fourth title won with Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green and Andre Iguodala together under head coach Steve Kerr.
